A trip across the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge to Zhuhai offers an abundance of things to see and do and discover a slice of China’s Greater Bay Area.
If you’re looking for somewhere more tranquil than the usual central-city Zhuhai attractions, head to Huangyanghe River Wetland Park in Zhuhai’s Doumen District. Search 黄杨河湿地公园 or “Huangyanghe River Wetland Park” in your map app.
Some paths run right beside the river; when the water level rises, these sections are closed for safety. The setting is family-friendly and generally peaceful, and it is usually easy to find a quieter stretch of path. Most of the park is accessible, although one or two bridges have shallow steps.
What to Expect? Tranquility.
There are public toilets and drinks vending machines. In several areas, you can sit on the grass or bring a small tent and relax. Mosquitoes have not been a problem for me (I’ve jinxed it now!), but it is still sensible to bring insect repellent. Shade is limited, so pack sunscreen, a hat, sleeves, water, and anything else you need for the heat.
With paths, grassy areas, decks, benches, river views and a good chance of catching the sunset, this is a well-maintained, unhurried place to walk or jog. On one visit, I saw a family having a barbecue on the grass verge, with a fan plugged into their electric car. That’s a first for me.
Nearby, there is ongoing development, including residential blocks, an Orange Hotel and a Zhuhai Sheraton property.
Parking and Getting There
There is ample on-street parking, along with a few paid spaces.
By car or taxi, the park is about 40 minutes from the HZMB exit via toll-free roads. This park works particularly well in a relaxed Zhuhai itinerary for visitors who want to see a different side of the city. Also for families with young children, although care should be taken because there are places where the water is deep.
